Amazing Will Venable Diving Catch

Venable's incredible diving catch on the warning track in center with his back to the infield — reminiscent of Jim Edmonds at his best — robbed Juan Perez of a certain game-ending hit and allowed the Padres more time to take the lead and beat the San Francisco Giants 5-3 in 13 innings.Venable went all out to track down the ball hit by Juan Perez, which surely would have won the game for the Giants had it dropped with a runner on second. Outstanding effort and timing by Venable."It was one of the best catches I've seen to save a game. It's as simple as that. It's a game-saving catch," said Giants manager Bruce Bochy after the game.To matters even sweeter for Venable, the Padres would score the winning run in the 13th.

Reds-Royals Game Canceled After Aroldis Chapman hit in face with liner (Video)

Reds closer Aroldis Chapman was carried off the field on a stretcher Wednesday night after being struck in the face by a liner off the bat of Salvador Perez of the Royals. The good news is that Chapman, per C. Trent Rosecrans of the Cincinnati Enquirer, suffered a cut and contusion above his left eye but thankfully never lost consciousness. With two outs and the bases loaded in the sixth inning, Perez hit a 99-mph fastball up the middle and appeared to hit Chapman in the face. Medical personnel ran out immediately to the mound after Chapman went down and soon after officials cancelled the game.Reds announcers reported Perez "flinched" after seeing the liner hit Chapman in the forehead. The Cincinnati pitcher remained moving throughout his on-field treatment, which those same announcers said suggested Chapman never lost consciousness. Pitchf/x data reports the pitch was a 99 mph fastball.

Alex Cobb Hit In Head By Line Drive

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Tampa Bay Rays right-hander Alex Cobb was taken off the field on a stretcher after he was hit on the right ear by a liner off the bat of Kansas City's Eric Hosmer in the fifth inning of Saturday's game. Cobb put a hand on his head after being struck. Trainers from both teams and other medical staff immediately ran onto the field. Cobb could be seen kicking his legs while being examined on the mound. The Rays announced that Cobb remained conscious the whole time and was taken to Bayfront Medical Center in St. Petersburg for further examination.Cobb, who was drafted out of high school by the Rays in the fourth round back in 2006, cracked the majors in 2011 and had made 44 starts for the franchise before his Saturday afternoon outing. After delivering the pitch, Cobb had no time to react as the ball was scorched off Hosmer's bat. The ball ricocheted off Cobb's head and back to catcher Jose Lobaton, who fired to first to complete the out.In the aftermath we've also learned one other piece of information that was really very cool. According to multiple reports at the ballpark, the entire Rays starting rotation along with former teammate James Shields, who now pitches for Kansas City, met Cobb in the tunnel to wish him well before he was loaded into the ambulance. That was really very cool of all of them, and I think it shows you the strength of solidarity that not only goes along with sharing a clubhouse in the big leagues, but to a certain extent I think it shows there's an even stronger bond shared by pitchers. No one understands the pressures and dangers of their job quite like another pitcher would, so it's only natural they stick together.

Goalies Ray Emery, Braden Holtby Huge Fight During Line Brawl 11-1-2013

It was already ugly on the scoreboard, but it got really ugly on the ice when the Philadelphia Flyers and Washington Capitals engaged in a full line brawl that included both goaltenders dropping the gloves. The whole thing started when Wayne Simmonds turned into a human wrecking ball the next shift after Washington scored to make it 7-0. He and Tom Wilson dropped the gloves. Then a few other players squared off, then Flyers goaltender Ray Emery made a beeline for Capitals goalie Braden Holtby, who appeared to have no interest in dropping the gloves.Emery was given two minutes for instigating, two for leaving the crease, five for fighting and a 10-minute misconduct. It was his third career fight, according to HockeyFights.com, and first since he tangoed with Marty Biron and Andrew Peters during that infamous 2007 brawl with the Buffalo Sabres.Holtby was given five for fighting.Joel Ward recorded his first career hat trick and Braden Holtby turned aside 27 shots despite getting battered in a goalie fight as visiting Washington breezed to victory in a penalty-filled affair.Nicklas Backstrom scored twice and Jason Chimera tallied for the fourth straight contest and added three assists. The highlight of it all was a goalie fight between Ray Emery and Braden Holtby. Emery, of course, is no stranger to fights. He was part of one of the NHL’s most famous goaltender bouts during his time with the Ottawa Senators. As for Holtby, it was his first fight as an NHL player, and he was soundly beaten.

Dodgers And Diamondbacks 'Massive Fight' at Dodger Stadium

LOS ANGELES – Mark McGwire's fists were filled with as much as he could grab of Matt Williams' jersey, with Matt Williams still in it. His face was red. His words were blue. We can assume spittle. Swarming the pair of coaches raged a pretty fair brawl, as far as baseball brawls go. The Arizona Diamondbacks, first place in the NL West, and Los Angeles Dodgers, last in the West, threw pitches at each other twice, perhaps three times, maybe more, on Tuesday night at Dodger Stadium. The benches and bullpens were twice hastily vacated, and punches and invectives were thrown. Six, including Dodgers’ 22-year-old Yasiel Puig, struck in the face earlier with an Ian Kennedy fastball, were ejected. No punches were thrown and order was quickly restored. However, that didn't last very long. Greinke was due up second in the bottom of the inning, and it appeared inevitable that things were going to escalate further should L.A.'s starter remain in the game. Sure enough, after Luis Cruz popped out, Greinke stepped to the plate. And Kennedy promptly drilled Greinke up by the shoulder. What ensued was an all-out brawl that even involved managers and coaches from both sides. The bench-clearing donnybrook got underway in the seventh inning at Dodger Stadium after Arizona pitcher Ian Kennedy plunked his L.A. counterpart, Zack Greinke, with a high-and-tight pitch. Home plate umpire Clint Fagan immediately ejected Kennedy, who began walking off the mound as Greinke shook off the impact. Before the D-backs pitcher even crossed the first-base line, he was swallowed up by a crowd of players who had come charging out of both dugouts. Prominent among those involved in the chaos was Mattingly, who appeared to toss Arizona bench coach Alan Trammell to the ground.

Track marshal dead after Canadian Grand Prix 2013

The 38-year-old man was crushed by a crane that was being used to remove Esteban Gutierrez’s stricken Sauber from the track. The fatal accident happened when the marshal tripped as he was picking up his radio and was unseen by the crane driver, who continued driving. He was airlifted to hospital but pronounced dead late on Sunday evening. Sunday’s race winner Sebastian Vettel was quick to the lead the tributes, saying: “It is very, very sad to hear that a marshal tragically lost his life in Canada. He is the third marshal to have died since 2000 after fatal accidents at the Italian Grand Prix in 2000 and the Australian Grand Prix in 2001, although both of those incidents involved wheels which had come loose.Among those to pay tribute to the marshal last night was Ferrari's double world champion Fernando Alonso who had just finished the race in second place. "The worker was helping to recover a car which had stopped during the race. The recovery vehicle had lifted the car to return it to the pits and while doing this the worker dropped his radio and attempted to pick it up. As he did this, he stumbled and was hit and run over by the recovery vehicle," the FIA, the governing body of F1, said in a statement. The track worker, a 10 year veteran, was rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead at 6:02 PM local time before he was to be operated on.

Flames vs. Canucks Line Brawl (Video)

The Vancouver Canucks haven’t been able to score lately and the Flames are one of the worst teams offensively this season. They’re gaining ground on the league lead in major penalties though. A mere two seconds into the Saturday’s contest, Vancouver and Calgary had already combined for 142 penalty minutes. Calgary’s Kevin Westgarth, Chris Butler, Blair Jones, and Ladislav Smid had all been handed game misconducts. On the Canucks side, Kellan Lain, Dale Weise, and Kevin Bieksa were similarly booted.Flames coach Bob Hartley decided to start the game with his fourth-liners. Vancouver coach John Tortorella, stunned by this decision, decided to send out his goons as well.As soon as the puck dropped, it was mass chaos. The ice was full of gloves and sticks as each player found someone else to fight. Even Canucks left winger Kellan Lain, two seconds into his NHL debut, wasn't afraid to get physical. The fighting wasn't even limited to the players to a certain extent. Tortorella and Hartley were getting into it from across the benches. Torts wasn't even content to keep it confined to the bench, as he headed for the Flames hallway during intermission, causing what was another scrum. Adam Proteau of The Hockey News got a little inventive with how Tortorella will next infiltrate the Flames' dressing room.

Crazy Cuban Baseball Player Attacks Pitcher With Bat

Most baseball brawls involve a lot of pushing and shoving, but occasionally there are some that turn into very dangerous incidents. Things escalated quickly during a game in Cuba on Monday night. After Villa Clara pitcher Freddy Alvarez allowed a home run to lead off the seventh inning, which gave Matanzas a 3-0 lead, things took a turn for the worse. Alvarez drilled the next batter in the head with a fastball, and two batters later, the pitcher hit Victor Mesa Jr. The second plunking was enough for Matanzas, and the benches cleared.Luckily, Valdes who wasn't even an active player, missed and although both benches cleared for the brawl, the rest of the game passed without incident once Alvarez was removed from the game.Alvarez was lucky enough to get out of the way, but Valdes caught Villa Clara first baseman Ramon Lunar in the face with the backswing and knocked him to the ground. However, Valdes hit another Villa Clara player, Ramon Lunar, in the face with the backswing knocking him to the ground. Lunar was not seriously injured. He only suffered cuts to his lips and nose according to reporters at the game. Sanctions against Valdes are expected to come down swiftly.

FDNY And NYPD Charity Hockey Game Bench-Clearing Brawl

A bench-clearing brawl broke out during a charity hockey game between New York City cops and firefighters on Sunday in Uniondale, LI. “It was reminiscent of the old-time Rangers-Flyers games in the mid-70s,” quipped an NYPD cop who was at the game at the Nassau Coliseum. “I was waiting for [legendary Philadelphia Flyers enforcer] Dave Schultz to come out on the ice.” The referees’ efforts to mediate the fight proved futile as dozens of firefighters and police officers relentlessly punched and wrestled each other to the ground. FDNY and NYPD devolved into a full-out brawl at Nassau Coliseum with the score tied at three. Cops and firefighters were beating the crap out of each other. The FDNY had won the last five matches, but the NYPD took an 8-5 victory today. In the end it was the NYPD getting the win in the game, 8-5. FDNY now holds a record of 23-16-2 vs. the NYPD but this one is probably going to be remembered for a bit more than the final score.

Molina and Matheny ejected after close play

First base umpire Clint Fagan had a quick hook. St. Louis Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina had a short fuse. This proved a combustible combination on Sunday as Fagan ejected Molina, leading to an epic meltdown from the four-time All-Star.Matheny got into it with the umpire while trying to hold back an increasingly agitated and physical Molina. Moments later, Matheny was ejected as well. The explanation was that he threw his equipment," Matheny said, via the St. Louis Dispatch. "It's a very poor explanation in my mind. A shame, you know, the guy plays with passion. He's frustrated with himself, which happens every single day in this league, and the wrong decision was made.
