BET Awards 2014 August Alsina Wins Best New Artist Cries on the stage

August Alsina was crowned Best New Artist at the 2014 BET Awards. Taking the stage, the emotional New Orleans R&B crooner said, “I told myself if and when I got up here, I wouldn’t cry,” adding, “I always wondered what this moment right here would feel like.” The big surprise was who actually won the prestigious award: August Alsina. Now he did have some breakout hits in the way of "Don't Forget About Me" and "Make It Home ft. Jeezy". Both with several million views on Youtube and his star has been rising high in the last 6 months. You could say that the award may be based on momentum, because August seemingly has more momentum than the rest at this moment. Because either way, most were surprised.

Nate Marquardt vs. James Te Huna Fight Ufc Fight Night 43

In his return to middleweight and in a fight he desperately needed to win, former Strikeforce welterweight champion and previously top middleweight contender Nate Marquardt stopped hometown favorite James Te Huna via first-round armbar in the main event at UFC Fight Night 43 in Auckland, New Zealand on Saturday night. The fight itself seemed to be a one-sided battle for Marquardt, who outstruck and outgrappled Te Huna throughout. He eventually secured a fight-ending armbar on Te Huna, earning him a win in a win-or-go-home bout.Te Huna -- who was making his divisional debut after struggling in recent matches at Light Heavyweight -- now has three straight losses, all of which were not very competitive. He'll certainly have to change that real soon to avoid getting the ax, while Marquardt lives to fight another day against, hopefully, a fighter near his experienced, well-rounded level.

Little Boy Crazy Dance On Miami Marlins Fan Camera

This kid got on the Jumbotron at a Miami Marlins game and lost his damn mind. It is terrifying to behold. Granted, he is just a small boy, but his hip-swiveling, air-humping ways, when combined with his expression, all serve to create an atmosphere of fear. Fans often notice when this happens, and they get excited and wave at the camera and everyone has a nice time. This kid, though, took things to another level, creating the greatest moment in Marlins history. The mint on the pillow, of course, was the young fan’s shirt-flip. That sealed the deal. He popped the top Wahlberg-style like he’d been waiting all night for it—which certainly appears to have been the case. Our young hero stared the Fan Cam in all the way, willing his way onto the Jumbotron with wild eye contact. Once he made it onscreen, he didn't disappoint.

FIFA World Cup 2014 Luis Suarez bites Giorgio Chiellini

The Uruguay striker appeared to sink his teeth into Italy defender Giorgio Chiellini during a cagey winner-take-all Group D match at the World Cup. The incident, which wouldn't be the first time Suarez bit another player, occurred in the 80th minute when both players collided in the Italy penalty area. The 27 year-old left teeth-marks on Chiellini's shoulder after clashing with him at the end of Uruguay's 1-0 win in Natal - where Fifa president Sepp Blatter was in attendance - that saw the South Americans qualify for the last 16. A Fifa spokesperson said: "We are awaiting the official match reports and will gather all the necessary elements in order to evaluate the matter." The two teams were 80 minutes into the game when Suárez leaned into Chiellini and appeared to chomp down HARD ... both men then tumbled to the ground. This is the 3rd time Suárez has been accused of using his pearly whites during a game. He was suspended for five games for biting at the beginning of the season.

8.0 Major Earthquake and Tsunami strike Alaska

A magnitude 8.0 earthquake struck deep under the ocean floor near Alaska's Aleutian Islands, triggering shaking that could be felt for vast distances and prompting a tsunami warning, the U.S. Geological Survey and National Tsunami Warning Center said. The tsunami warning, later downgraded to an advisory, prompted the evacuation of about 150 residents of the town of Adak to higher ground, according to media reports. It was not immediately clear whether the quake caused injuries or damage. The quake was so large and deep that it triggered dozens of aftershocks within an hour and prompted enough shaking that it will be picked up by seismometers around the world over the next 24 hours, said Mike West, a seismologist who serves as director of the Alaska Earthquake Center. The earthquake was widely felt in Adak, one of the largest cities in the affected area about 1,300 miles southwest of Anchorage. Shaking could also be felt in Shemya and other villages along the sparsely populated Aleutian Islands. Shemya Island is where the U.S. military operates Eareckson Air Station, which serves mainly as an early warning radar installation. The earthquake recorded at 12:53 p.m. Alaska Daylight Time was initially reported with a magnitude of 7.1, but that was upgraded to 8.0, Ruppert said. The quake was centered about 13 miles southeast of Little Sitkin Island or 25 miles north Amchitka Island. There were no initial reports of damage in Adak or on Shemya Island, said Ian Dickson, website manager for the Alaska Earthquake Information Center. Dickson said there were 17 measurable aftershocks in the two hours after the quake. First estimates put the quake at magnitude 8.0, and prompted a tsunami warning. The strength was subsequently set by the U.S. Geological Survey at 7.9 magnitude and the tsunami warning was scaled back to an advisory.

Michelle Wie Wins U.S. Women's Open at Pinehurst 2014

Michelle Wie's fascinating golf career reached its apex at the 2014 U.S. Women's Open, as the former prodigy solidified her superstar status by winning her first major championship on Sunday.Michelle Wie had a three-shot lead on the 16th tee box, endured a double-bogey on that hole, but birdied the 17th to finish at 2-under-par win the 2014 U.S. Women's Open at Pinehurst No. 2 Sunday. It is the first major championship for the 24-year-old Hawaiian, who beat Stacy Lewis by two strokes.Stephanie Meadow finished at 1-over-par to take third. Facing a 25-foot birdie putt on 17 that was fast and dangerous, Wie pumped her fist when it fell, then pounded her fist twice to celebrate the moment. "That kind of emotion, that kind of pressure ... I'll think of that putt as one of the best putts I've ever hit in my life," she said. A par on the 18th gave her an even-par 70 to beat Lewis, the No. 1 player in women's golf who made Wie earn it. Lewis made eight birdies — the most in a final round by a male for female in the U.S. Open — and closed with a 66. Lewis was on the range preparing for a playoff when her caddie told her Wie made birdie on the 17th. Moments later, Lewis was on the 18th green to hug Wie. Like most players, she was perplexed why Wie would spend so much time trying to compete against the men when she still didn't have an LPGA Tour card.Wie also was making her mark in majors. She had two top-10 finishes in the Kraft Nabisco. She contended in the U.S. Women’s Open in 2005 and 2006, tying for third in ’06. Wie then went through a dark period in her career. During the 2007 Women’s Open at Pine Needles, she withdrew with a wrist injury, sobbing as she left. “People doubted me and I doubted myself,” she said. She went to college. Her years at Stanford helped her mature, changed her perspective. “She became her own independent person,” Lewis said. “She’s having fun, she’s taken ownership of her game.” A victory this year in the Lotte Championship in Hawaii was Wie’s first on the LPGA Tour since 2010, and she was the runner-up in the year’s first major, the Kraft Nabisco. By the time she came to Pinehurst, she was 11th in the Rolex world rankings. Wie was on hand to see Kaymer finish off the U.S. Open, saying the 18th-hole scene in the final round gave her goosebumps. She closed with an even-par 70 for a two-shot victory over Stacy Lewis, the No. 1 player in the women’s golf who made Wie work for it by making eight birdies in a round of 66. Wie has been one of the biggest names in women’s golf since she was 13 and played in the final group of a major. She now has four LPGA victories and leads the tour’s money list.
