Russell Westbrook Right Hand Injury During Thunder Game

LOS ANGELES -- Oklahoma City Thunder guard Russell Westbrook suffered a small fracture of the second metacarpal in his right hand Thursday night, coach Scott Brooks said. Westbrook exited Thursday night's 93-90 loss to the Los Angeles Clippers with 6:35 left in the second quarter and did not return.Westbrook had X-rays taken at Staples Center and was set to be re-evaluated Friday. He returned to the Thunder bench in the third quarter, still in uniform but with a bag of ice wrapped around his hand, then left for the locker room again at the end of the quarter. As Westbrook was walking back to the locker room after the injury, he had to be restrained from a heckling fan yelling at him from above the tunnel.Westbrook's hand appeared to make contact with the back of Oklahoma City center Kendrick Perkins as he jumped for the ball. Immediately after the rebounding scrum, Westbrook flexed his hand in apparent discomfort and then lost the ball out of bounds before exiting the court. On his way to the locker room, Westbrook engaged in a brief exchange with a fan or fans at the Staples Center. After another possession, Westbrook left the court and as he headed to the Thunder locker room, he had to be restrained after a fan began yelling at him from the stands. No report on the exact nature of the injury or when Westbrook will return to the game.

10 Hours of Walking in NYC as a Woman

Ten hours of walking around New York City, 100 catcalls and one huge problem. Rob Bliss of Rob Bliss Creative makes viral videos for a living and decided to use his craft to shine a light on street harassment, a pervasive issue affecting females around the world. Partnering with actress Shoshana B. Roberts and Hollaback, a nonprofit movement launched by activists to end street harassment, Bliss packaged his production as a PSA and offers viewers a different perspective on the problem.During filming, Bliss attached a GoPro camera to his back with a chest strap; he wore a yellow backpack, sunglasses and earbuds to look unassuming while walking five to 10 feet ahead of Roberts, who held two microphones in her hands. The actress wore simple clothes for the shoot: jeans and a black, crew-neck T-shirt.The results are startling. According to Hollaback, there were over 100 instances of verbal harassment in that 10-hour walk, not including winks and whistles. In the video, the woman remains silent. She is dressed in a T-shirt and jeans.

UFC 179 Jose Aldo def. Chad Mendes R5

The UFC returned from a three week sabbatical with a dreary fight card in UFC 179. The event, which aired on pay-per-view live from Rio De Janeiro Brazil, featured the featherweight title fight rematch between challenger Chad Mendes and champion Jose Aldo. Marc Goddard is the referee. Both fighters are orthodox. Mendes is coming right at him and Aldo is getting out of the way. Several leg kicks land for Mendes. Aldo drills Mendes with a body shot, but Mendes drops Aldo with a left hook, albeit only for a split second. Outside leg kick for the champion lands. Mendes land a leg kick, but Aldo follows up with a kick to the body. One-two from Aldo pops Mendes' head back and the two exchange leg kicks. Mendes is on a shot, but can't get it. A groin strike on Aldo temporarily halts the action. The bout resumes. Body kick for Aldo scores and Mendes nearly catches it, but can't. The fighters exchange outside leg kicks. Outside leg kick and left hook combo finds the mark for Aldo. Mendes with his own two-punch combo finds the mark. Mendes whiffs on another takedown attempt, but lands a leg kick. Aldo is also jabbing Mendes consistently. Mendes ends the round with a nice left. Among the big winners on the preliminary card were Neil Magny, who tied a UFC record with his fifth win of the year, Jose Aldo’s Nova Uniao teammate, Yan Cabral, and Andre Fili, a training partner of Chad Mendes at Team Alpha Male. Aldo clocked Mendes with another right hand. With just one minute remaining, there was little action. Mendes jumped in with a punch and Aldo easily slipped it. A low leg kick was checked. Aldo countered with a left hand that hurt Mendes. He pushed ahead with more offense to close the frame and that was that on a thrilling title affair.

Croatian Boxer Vido Loncar Viciously Attacks Referee After Match

Croatian boxer Vido Loncar took on Algirdas Baniulis at the European Youth Boxing Championships in Zagreb, and the match was stopped after Loncar started getting lit up by Baniulis. Loncar was not happy with that decision, and vented by beating the shit out of the referee. In any case, the referee had made his decision, and that was to award the bout to Baniulis. Both fighters returned to their corner and got “cleaned up” prior to the official announcement of the referee’s decision. Like a good sport, Baniulis made his way to the middle of the ring. Just when you think Loncar is about to do the same, well…his happens.Baniulis quickly heads for the hills once the melee starts. Slightly surprising for someone who just won the fight, but that is neither here nor there. At the same time, Loncar has to be forcibly removed from the ring by his ankles. It takes a few moments, but the referee is eventually able to make his way to a chair and be properly looked at after the attack.Chaos then ensues. Loncar appears to run to the dressing room while being chased by a number of people. At the moment, we can only speculate what the punishment will be, but it seems fair to say we will not be seeing Loncar in a ring anytime soon.

Whether it was due to the cross-check (which was not penalized), the shot, or a combination of the two, he remained on the ice for several minutes while being tended to by team doctors and trainers. He gave a thumbs up to the crowd as he was being removed from the game.Dupuis was in such a position due to a cross-check delivered to his back by Alex Goligoski. Dupuis, who is in his eighth year playing for Pittsburgh, did deliver a thumb's-up as he was taken off the ice at Consol Energy Center.

Cardinals' Kolten Wong Hits a Walk-off Home Run

ST. LOUIS — As he did in Game 3 of the NLDS against the Dodgers, Cardinals second baseman Kolten Wong delivered a line-drive home run over the wall in right field to give St. Louis another October victory. This particular home run, estimated at 362 feet, helped the Cardinals avoid a potentially disastrous situation. If they had lost Game 2 of the NLCS, they would have traveled to San Francisco trailing 2-0 in the best-of-seven series. That, obviously, wasn't an ideal situation for the reigning NL champs. The best-of-seven series resumes Tuesday night with Game 3 in San Francisco with John Lackey going for St. Louis and Tim Hudson starting for the Giants. In a back-and-forth game, St. Louis got homers from rookie pinch-hitter Oscar Taveras in the seventh and Matt Adams in the eighth to take a 4-3 lead. After the Giants tied it on a wild pitch, Wong hit an 0-1 delivery from Sergio Romo for his second big home run this postseason. The rookie's seventh-inning drive was the decisive blow in Game 3 of the NL Division Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers.Bottom of the ninth, Kolten Wong walk off home run. HIGH again.Wong is so thrilled he whips his helmet, almost hitting an umpire in the head. Then Wong’s teammates proceed to tear off his uniform. The San Francisco Giants tied the game at 4-4 off of a wild pitch in the top of the ninth inning, but the Cardinals' Kolten Wong came back and went yard off of Sergio Romo to lead his team to a 5-4 win.

WR Victor Cruz Knee Injury Against Philadelphia

Victor Cruz has not exactly been lighting it up for the New York Giants this season, but when it comes to veteran wide receivers he is among the better ones in the league. He is certainly the best veteran receiver Eli Manning has to throw to, but it looks like he is going to have to do without him for a while. The length of the delay and the presence of the cart quickly tipped off viewers that the injury was serious, but it wasn’t until Michele Tafoya gave her sideline report that fans were alerted to how bad it really was. Whether Cruz was crying because of the intense pain, the sobering realization that his season was probably over or a combination of both, the scene was hard to watch. As the Pro Bowler was wheeled off, his arm tenderly draped around the Giants trainer, he was approached by teammates and opponents wishing him well.Late in the third quarter against the Seahawks, Cruz was injured when he went high to catch a pass from Eli Manning and landed on his head while being tackle by cornerback Jeremy Lane. Cruz was slow to get up and walked gingerly to the sideline. The 16-yard play was ruled a catch but eventually overturned on a challenge. The injury will require surgery and almost certainly keep Cruz out for the rest of the season. He will likely be placed on injured reserve. With Cruz injured, the Giants will rely on Rueben Randle and rookie first-round pick Odell Beckham at wide receiver.

Matt Kenseth And Brad Keselowski Fight after Charlotte race

A brawl involving Brad Keselowski and Matt Kenseth ensued following the NASCAR race Saturday night at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Upset that Keselowski rear-ended him on pit road after the race was over, Kenseth blindsided Keselowski in the garage area putting him in a headlock and setting off a shoving match between their respective teams.Normally mild-mannered Matt Kenseth attacked Brad Keselowski in between Team Penske's transporters, putting Keselowski in a headlock before they were separated. That confrontation capped a wild and confusing series of events which included contact between Kenseth, Keselowski, Denny Hamlin and Tony Stewart.Kenseth and Hamlin, who are teammates for JGR, went looking for Keselowski after the race and found him by his trailer. Kenseth was upset with Keselowski for hitting him on the cool-down lap. That's some crazy shit! The race, of course, featured all manner of intentional wrecks—even after the checkered flag—and the sort of behavior that makes NASCAR entertaining but difficult to take seriously at times.

Trevor Gillies Slams William Carrier’s Head on Ice

Former NHL tough guy and current American Hockey League goon Trevor Gillies was ejected from an Abbotsford Heat game on Friday night after using excessive force to slam Rochester Americans winger and Buffalo Sabres prospect William Carrier’s head into the ice. Gillies is now a player (term used loosely) for the Adirondack Flames of the AHL, who faced the Rochester Americans on Friday night ... and Gillies ‘faced his opponent, Amerks rookie winger William Carrier. With 3:09 left to play, Gillies grabbed Carrier – a St. Louis Blues pick in 2013 who isn’t a fighter, let alone one with the work history of Gillies – and began pounding him with punches. Eventually, Carrier went to the ice in an attempt to avoid the onslaught, with no interest in fighting. Gillies wasn’t exactly a fan of this pacifism, and promptly grabbed Carrier by the jersey and slammed his head to the ice.You might remember Gillies from his lackluster and violent time in the NHL, during which his goonery left multiple players out of action for extended periods of time. Carrier seems OK from the video, but that can't be good for the brain.

Paul Pierce and Joakim Noah Fight

It's only the NBA preseason, but that doesn't mean that some players are going to take it any less seriously. During Monday night's contest between the Chicago Bulls and Washington Wizards, Paul Pierce and Joakim Noah got into a bit of a scuffle.Good thing Chicago Bulls head coach Tom Thibodeau was there to intercede before things got way too out of hand. Noah came to defend Butler after the foul and got a poke in the head from Pierce which almost lead to a full on brawl. Its safe to say the Eastern Conference is going to be fun this season. After a few shoves to the chest from both sides, the former Boston Celtic poked Noah in the forehead, causing Noah to come after him. Noah was restrained by Bulls head coach, Tom Thibodeau, as Pierce got into a boxing stance to fight.

Jake Locker dirty hit after scoring against Browns

The Titans got off to a hot start against the Cleveland Browns in their Week 5 matchup, but this hit on QB Jake Locker left fans holding to their breath. Locker scrambled for an 11-yard touchdown to put the Titans up 14-0, but was on the receiving end of an absolutely dirty looking shot from linebacker Chris Kirksey.Kirksey was standing in the end zone as Tennessee Titans quarterback Jake Locker scored on a run. Locker was hit before he crossed the goal line and was going down when Kirksey unloaded with a forearm to the head that seemed to knock Locker a bit woozy. He was tested for a concussion on the sideline. Locker stayed in the game after that hit, but left to the locker room later holding his right hand after he was hit on a blitz later in the second quarter and was ruled out for the ballgame. He was replaced by Charlie Whitehurst as the Titans blew a 28-3 lead and lost, 29-28.He was taken to the locker room to be evaluated for signs of a concussion; despite the above, he was cleared to play and reinserted to the game. Shortly thereafter, Locker hurt his wrist and was removed. Charlie Whitehurst entered at quarterback.
