Car Chase Suicide Aired

Fox anchor Shepard Smith apologized to viewers earlier this afternoon for airing a car chase that ended with a man shooting himself in the head. In the scene, posted online, the man is seen stumbling outside the car, then raising what appears to be a gun to his head. He then pitches forward. Around 3:30 p.m. ET, at the end of the hour-long pursuit, he drove off the road, got out of his car and ran down a dirt path for a short period. He then appeared to shoot himself in the head and collapsed. Fox News quickly cut away from the shot and went to commercial after the gruesome incident. Host Shepard Smith immediately apologized for airing what looked like a suicide. "We really messed up," Smith told viewers after the flop. He said the footage was on a 5-second time delay and shouldn't have been aired. "We're all very sorry. That didn't belong on television.""Sometimes we see a lot of things that we don't let get to you because it's not time-appropriate. It's insensitive. It's just wrong. And that was wrong. And that won't happen again on my watch. And I'm sorry." In addition to Smith's apology, Fox News executive VP Michael Clemente issued his own statement: "We took every precaution to avoid any such live incident by putting the helicopter pictures on a five second delay," Clemente said. "Unfortunately, this mistake was the result of a severe human error and we apologize for what viewers ultimately saw on the screen."

WWE RAW RESULT

Welcome to the Bleacher Report live WWE Raw blog where we cover all the action as it happens live on television. Tonight's show will most likely address the fact that CM Punk had his foot on the rope while being pinned in the main event from last week. WWE has a rare opportunity to really build up some feuds over the next several weeks as we are in the early part of a long stretch between PPVs. It will be interesting to see what feuds WWE progresses with tonight and which ones they leave for SmackDown to deal with. There are a lot of possibilities for how tonight will go, but one thing is for sure, and that is that Jim Ross will be announcing at tonight's show to fill in for The King while he recovers. JR will have the unfortunate duty of following up an impressive showing from JBL last week, but he is more than up to the task. While following the action we encourage readers to discuss and debate during the show in the comments section below.

Devon Walker Injury

Certain events make you forget the game at hand, and Tulane safety Devon Walker's injury against Tulsa on Saturday falls in that tragic category.

Walker was injured in a head-to-head collision with his teammate Julius Warmsley while trying to attempt a tackle at the end of the first half. KTUL-TV reporter John Moss had some news concerning the senior safety's condition.Medical personnel from both teams came out about 12:37 p.m. to attend to Walker as he lay on the field.

Savoie said after the game that Walker "actually never completely lost consciousness" and was breathing.

About 12:52 p.m., he was lifted onto a stretcher and loaded into a waiting ambulance about two minutes later. The ambulance drove off the field about 1 p.m.

FOX Sports reported a hush went over the crowd at H.A. Stadium as Walker was attended to on the field, and that several coaches were in tears. Spectators bowed their heads as someone on the field led the stadium in prayer.I had a difficult time watching the second half of Tulane's game against Tulsa. My thoughts and prayers were with Devon as the action continued on the field. I thought the FOX Sports crew did a great job of balancing the play-by-play with the gravity of Walker's situation. And the Tulsa players and coaches also showed a lot of class.

The thoughts and prayers of all Green Wave fans, alumni, and others are with you, Devon. You exemplify the excellence that is Tulane University. Stay strong.

Rihanna's Butt Grabbed At VMAs

Rihanna's performance of a new remix of "Cockiness (I Love It)" was made all the more buzzworthy by a surprisingly intimate moment near the end of the song. A$AP Rocky, the New York rapper who provided a guest verse for the track, leaned in close to Rihanna, put his mouth on her neck and openly grabbed Rihanna's backside. Rihanna didn’t seem to be the least bit fazed by the situation, even though we can’t imagine that A$AP got THAT handsy during rehearsals. (We already know that Lana Del Rey finds him Frenchable and he wanted to “bone” her.) Post-tushgrab, she made her way through the crowd to the raised platform where house DJ and her “We Found Love” collaborator Calvin Harris was DJing. The crowd, both at home and attending live in the Staples Center, went predictably bonkers, and got the 2012 VMAs off to a memorable start.
