BET Awards 2014 August Alsina Wins Best New Artist Cries on the stage

August Alsina was crowned Best New Artist at the 2014 BET Awards. Taking the stage, the emotional New Orleans R&B crooner said, “I told myself if and when I got up here, I wouldn’t cry,” adding, “I always wondered what this moment right here would feel like.” The big surprise was who actually won the prestigious award: August Alsina. Now he did have some breakout hits in the way of "Don't Forget About Me" and "Make It Home ft. Jeezy". Both with several million views on Youtube and his star has been rising high in the last 6 months. You could say that the award may be based on momentum, because August seemingly has more momentum than the rest at this moment. Because either way, most were surprised.

Nate Marquardt vs. James Te Huna Fight Ufc Fight Night 43

In his return to middleweight and in a fight he desperately needed to win, former Strikeforce welterweight champion and previously top middleweight contender Nate Marquardt stopped hometown favorite James Te Huna via first-round armbar in the main event at UFC Fight Night 43 in Auckland, New Zealand on Saturday night. The fight itself seemed to be a one-sided battle for Marquardt, who outstruck and outgrappled Te Huna throughout. He eventually secured a fight-ending armbar on Te Huna, earning him a win in a win-or-go-home bout.Te Huna -- who was making his divisional debut after struggling in recent matches at Light Heavyweight -- now has three straight losses, all of which were not very competitive. He'll certainly have to change that real soon to avoid getting the ax, while Marquardt lives to fight another day against, hopefully, a fighter near his experienced, well-rounded level.

Little Boy Crazy Dance On Miami Marlins Fan Camera

This kid got on the Jumbotron at a Miami Marlins game and lost his damn mind. It is terrifying to behold. Granted, he is just a small boy, but his hip-swiveling, air-humping ways, when combined with his expression, all serve to create an atmosphere of fear. Fans often notice when this happens, and they get excited and wave at the camera and everyone has a nice time. This kid, though, took things to another level, creating the greatest moment in Marlins history. The mint on the pillow, of course, was the young fan’s shirt-flip. That sealed the deal. He popped the top Wahlberg-style like he’d been waiting all night for it—which certainly appears to have been the case. Our young hero stared the Fan Cam in all the way, willing his way onto the Jumbotron with wild eye contact. Once he made it onscreen, he didn't disappoint.

FIFA World Cup 2014 Luis Suarez bites Giorgio Chiellini

The Uruguay striker appeared to sink his teeth into Italy defender Giorgio Chiellini during a cagey winner-take-all Group D match at the World Cup. The incident, which wouldn't be the first time Suarez bit another player, occurred in the 80th minute when both players collided in the Italy penalty area. The 27 year-old left teeth-marks on Chiellini's shoulder after clashing with him at the end of Uruguay's 1-0 win in Natal - where Fifa president Sepp Blatter was in attendance - that saw the South Americans qualify for the last 16. A Fifa spokesperson said: "We are awaiting the official match reports and will gather all the necessary elements in order to evaluate the matter." The two teams were 80 minutes into the game when Suárez leaned into Chiellini and appeared to chomp down HARD ... both men then tumbled to the ground. This is the 3rd time Suárez has been accused of using his pearly whites during a game. He was suspended for five games for biting at the beginning of the season.

8.0 Major Earthquake and Tsunami strike Alaska

A magnitude 8.0 earthquake struck deep under the ocean floor near Alaska's Aleutian Islands, triggering shaking that could be felt for vast distances and prompting a tsunami warning, the U.S. Geological Survey and National Tsunami Warning Center said. The tsunami warning, later downgraded to an advisory, prompted the evacuation of about 150 residents of the town of Adak to higher ground, according to media reports. It was not immediately clear whether the quake caused injuries or damage. The quake was so large and deep that it triggered dozens of aftershocks within an hour and prompted enough shaking that it will be picked up by seismometers around the world over the next 24 hours, said Mike West, a seismologist who serves as director of the Alaska Earthquake Center. The earthquake was widely felt in Adak, one of the largest cities in the affected area about 1,300 miles southwest of Anchorage. Shaking could also be felt in Shemya and other villages along the sparsely populated Aleutian Islands. Shemya Island is where the U.S. military operates Eareckson Air Station, which serves mainly as an early warning radar installation. The earthquake recorded at 12:53 p.m. Alaska Daylight Time was initially reported with a magnitude of 7.1, but that was upgraded to 8.0, Ruppert said. The quake was centered about 13 miles southeast of Little Sitkin Island or 25 miles north Amchitka Island. There were no initial reports of damage in Adak or on Shemya Island, said Ian Dickson, website manager for the Alaska Earthquake Information Center. Dickson said there were 17 measurable aftershocks in the two hours after the quake. First estimates put the quake at magnitude 8.0, and prompted a tsunami warning. The strength was subsequently set by the U.S. Geological Survey at 7.9 magnitude and the tsunami warning was scaled back to an advisory.

Michelle Wie Wins U.S. Women's Open at Pinehurst 2014

Michelle Wie's fascinating golf career reached its apex at the 2014 U.S. Women's Open, as the former prodigy solidified her superstar status by winning her first major championship on Sunday.Michelle Wie had a three-shot lead on the 16th tee box, endured a double-bogey on that hole, but birdied the 17th to finish at 2-under-par win the 2014 U.S. Women's Open at Pinehurst No. 2 Sunday. It is the first major championship for the 24-year-old Hawaiian, who beat Stacy Lewis by two strokes.Stephanie Meadow finished at 1-over-par to take third. Facing a 25-foot birdie putt on 17 that was fast and dangerous, Wie pumped her fist when it fell, then pounded her fist twice to celebrate the moment. "That kind of emotion, that kind of pressure ... I'll think of that putt as one of the best putts I've ever hit in my life," she said. A par on the 18th gave her an even-par 70 to beat Lewis, the No. 1 player in women's golf who made Wie earn it. Lewis made eight birdies — the most in a final round by a male for female in the U.S. Open — and closed with a 66. Lewis was on the range preparing for a playoff when her caddie told her Wie made birdie on the 17th. Moments later, Lewis was on the 18th green to hug Wie. Like most players, she was perplexed why Wie would spend so much time trying to compete against the men when she still didn't have an LPGA Tour card.Wie also was making her mark in majors. She had two top-10 finishes in the Kraft Nabisco. She contended in the U.S. Women’s Open in 2005 and 2006, tying for third in ’06. Wie then went through a dark period in her career. During the 2007 Women’s Open at Pine Needles, she withdrew with a wrist injury, sobbing as she left. “People doubted me and I doubted myself,” she said. She went to college. Her years at Stanford helped her mature, changed her perspective. “She became her own independent person,” Lewis said. “She’s having fun, she’s taken ownership of her game.” A victory this year in the Lotte Championship in Hawaii was Wie’s first on the LPGA Tour since 2010, and she was the runner-up in the year’s first major, the Kraft Nabisco. By the time she came to Pinehurst, she was 11th in the Rolex world rankings. Wie was on hand to see Kaymer finish off the U.S. Open, saying the 18th-hole scene in the final round gave her goosebumps. She closed with an even-par 70 for a two-shot victory over Stacy Lewis, the No. 1 player in the women’s golf who made Wie work for it by making eight birdies in a round of 66. Wie has been one of the biggest names in women’s golf since she was 13 and played in the final group of a major. She now has four LPGA victories and leads the tour’s money list.

Kevin Hart Ride a Roller Coaster The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon

Kevin Hart rides a roller coaster on Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon. He rode the Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit with Jimmy Fallon. Hart admitted he was terrified of roller coasters, which was made abundantly clear as the two of them approached the Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit. With speeds up to 65 miles per hour, both men admitted to being very nervous about what was going to happen. Being frightened of roller coasters is no new thing, but Jimmy Fallon manages to turn it into a segment that is actually both intentionally and unintentionally hilarious. Fallon takes a bug to the face on his way around, kinda like Fabio, but with less blood and bird slaughter.

San Antonio Spurs Wins NBA Championship 2014

SAN ANTONIO — The Spurs shook off some early-game jitters to run away with a 104-87 victory over the Heat in Game 5 of the Finals at the AT&T Center on Sunday, clinching their fifth title in franchise history. The back-to-back defending champion Heat saved their best for first, racing out to a 22-6 lead in the opening period. San Antonio looked discombobulated and unsure of itself in the game’s opening moments, committing a number of turnovers and failing to hit a field goal until more than four minutes into the game.Fifteen years later, coach Gregg Popovich and his band of old men did it again on Sunday night inside a raucous AT&T Center — with a whole lot of help from 22-year-old Kawhi Leonard. Their 104-87 Game 5 closeout win in the NBA Finals — one in which Leonard had 22 points and 10 rebounds — not only ended the Miami Heat's three-peat bid but polished the already-shiny legacy of the big man whose arrival from Wake Forest in 1997 started this whole special run, Tim Duncan.Duncan remembers all of the titles. But called this one the most special. In part, because of how last year's run ended with the Spurs blowing a lead late in Game 6 and then losing Game 7. He had gone as far as to say after winning this year's Western Conference Finals that he was confident the Spurs would win it this time.San Antonio erased an early 16-point deficit and routed Miami for the fourth time in the series, denying the Heat's quest for a third straight championship. A year after the Spurs suffered their only loss in six finals appearances — a heartbreaking seven-game defeat — they turned the rematch into no match at all. "We wanted to redeem ourselves. I'm just glad we were able to do that," Parker said.Finals MVP Kawhi Leonard had 22 points and 10 rebounds for the Spurs, who added this title to the ones they won in 1999, 2003, '05 and '07. They nearly had another last year, but couldn't hold off the Heat. "I've said many times, a day didn't go by where I didn't think about Game 6," Spurs coach Gregg Popovich said of the turning point in last year's finals. "So I think, just in general, for the group to have the fortitude that they showed to get back to this spot, I think speaks volumes about how they're constituted and what kind of fiber they have." Not to mention tons of talent, and perhaps the best coaching in the game. "They played exquisite basketball this series and in particular these last three games and they are the better team. There's no other way to say it," Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said. The Spurs won four titles in nine years, but hadn't been back on top since 2007, making Foreigner's "Feels Like the First Time" an appropriate song choice after the final buzzer. With the Heat facing a 3-1 deficit coming into Game 5, James had asked "Why not us?" during a press conference on Saturday when talking about a historic comeback. When Game 5 tipped off on Sunday, the four-time NBA MVP did his best to inspire his teammates. James scored 17 points in the first quarter as the Heat jumped out to a 29-22 lead. He would finish with a game-high 31 points but the Heat could not hold off the Spurs for long. San Antonio outscored Miami 82-58 over the final three quarters to clinch the title. While James struggled to find consistent support during the Finals, the Spurs' veteran trio -- Duncan, Tony Parker and Manu Ginobli -- was backed by a roster full of contributors. As the Spurs grabbed control of the series with an emphatic Game 3 win, Kawhi Leonard emerged as the team's most impactful player. The 22-year-old dynamo excelled at both ends of the floor as San Antonio reeled off three straight wins, defending James and scoring inside and out, en route to being named the MVP of the series.

FIFA World Cup 2014 Jennifer Lopez, Pitbull Perform at Opening Ceremony

Jennifer Lopez and Pitbull make up for a great show and sing the official soundtrack of the FIFA World Cup, "We are One" together. Everybody's dancing! It's time for football and the biggest show on earth! As it all ends, we get ready for the first match between Brazil and Croatia. The three artists seemed hesitant, standing in a circle and waving their arms throughout the short performance. The song was generally met with a tepid response from the crowd, although a roar could be heard when Lopez, in a bust-revealing beaded leotard, sang her solo and showed off some samba steps. Pitbull's usual outsize persona was muted as he stood in a Brazil shirt and tight cropped white pants; his vocals were drowned out by the Brazilian percussion troupe that provided live accompaniment to the track. Cheers from the crowd in Sao Paulo could be heard as the song ended. The 30-minute show was choreographed by Brazil's Paulo Barros and featured a variety of performers each dressed in random but colourful costumes. It began with children, dressed in the colours of the 32 nations, bouncing on trampolines as performers dressed as trees and flowers walked around the centre of the stadium. The colourful costumes were meant to represent the ‘nature phase’ of the show, which celebrated the rich diversity of Brazil. All of the celebrations centred around a gigantic globe situated in the middle of the Corinthians Arena and performers – each dressed in an array of colourful outfits – danced in front of the excited crowd. The globe displayed all of the flags of the countries taking part in the 2014 World Cup and resembled the Brazuca - the official ball of the competition. Superstar Jennifer Lopez, rapper Pitbull and Brazilian popstar Claudia Leitte headlined the show and bounced around the giant stage as they sang the official World Cup song 'We Are One (Ola Ola)'. Miss Lopez wore a sparkling green sequin dress for the performance, which delighted fans following earlier reports she might not attend.Accompanied by a Brazilian percussion troupe, J.Lo and Pitbull rose up from the ground onto the flower-shaped platform and waved their hands from side to side during the lively set, which ended with cheers from the crowd. J.Lo later posted a video from backstage of her dancing in her busty green leotard. “Who said I wasn’t coming?” she said.

Yoenis Cespedes Throws Out Howie Kendrick At Plate 2014

Yoenis Cespedes unleashed one of the best throws in the majors in 2014 on Tuesday night. In a 1-1 game in the eighth inning, Angels star Mike Trout doubled to left field, where the Athletics outfielder initially booted the ball. But he was able to recover and nail Howie Kendrick at home plate, on the fly. With Howie Kendrick on first and one out in a 1-1 game in the bottom of the 8th inning, Mike Trout doubled to left field. Cespedes took his eyes off the ball as he went to glove it on a bounce, and the ball kicked away from him. That mistake was enough for the Angels third base coach to wave Kendrick home. Cespedes first bobbled the ball, but the assist helped keep the game tied at one and the teams went into extra innings. Angels manager Mike Scioscia challenged the play, but the review upheld the call, keeping the game tied at one.

Orioles vs Athletics Manny Machado Ejected for throwing bat

For the second time in three days, an angry Manny Machado caused the benches to clear between the Orioles and Athletics. On Friday, tempers flared due to a rough tag by Athletics third baseman Josh Donaldson. After dodging a pitch thrown inside by A's reliever Fernando Abad in the eighth inning on Sunday, the 21-year-old let go of his bat on a swing and miss and appeared to toss it all the way down the third baseline. The bat landed in the outfield as Machado and the A's started jawing at each other. Both benches quickly spilled out onto the field, but no punches were thrown. The umpires deliberated and decided to eject both Machado and Abad. Following Oakland's blowout win, Machado insisted that it was an accident and the bat "slipped right out" of his hands, the Baltimore Sun reported. Crew chief Larry Vanover thought otherwise and explained after the game that both Abad's inside pitch and Machado's bat throw were intentional. Even Orioles broadcaster Gary Thorne thought Machado meant to throw his bat but wanted to toss it toward the mound. "The bat slipped out of my hands,'' Machado said. "Trying to make contact and the umpire thought it was intentional and he tossed me at that point. The umpire thought it was intentional, so I guess at that point you've got to toss the pitcher and the hitter at the same time.'' On Friday, Machado didn't like the force of the tag by Oakland third baseman Josh Donaldson and the two had to be separated. After the game, Orioles manager Buck Showalter matter-of-factly noted that he probably could have appealed that Machado did not swing at the pitch until after it had crossed the plate.

Benson Henderson vs. Rustam Khabilov Fight UFC Fight Night 42

Tonight (June 7, 2014,) Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) lightweights Ben Henderson and Rustam Khabilov will go to battle in the main event of UFC Fight Night 42, airing live at 10 p.m. EST on FOX Sports 1 from Tingley Coliseum in Albuquerque, New Mexico. In the main event, former UFC lightweight champion Benson Henderson squares off against Rustam Khabilov. Diego Sanchez faces Diego Sanchez in the co-main event. It is a golden opportunity for Henderson, who is nowhere close to get a title match, as he has been defeated by Pettis in previous two fights. He needs to put an impressive performance and show that he is a potential title threat and belongs in this competitive weight category. The 30-year-old Henderson is heading as favourite, but the former champion is not taking Khabilov lightly. "Khabilov is tough," Henderson said. "I have to go out there and get my hand raised." The rivalry between Henderson and Khabilov's famed trainer Greg Jackson has developed quite a bit, but the Colorado-born insisted there is no such rivalry and his gym, The MMA Lab, has previous success over Jackson's gym and holds advantage.

RoboCop Throws First Pitch at Detroit Tigers Game (Video)

DETROIT -- For a RoboCop, you might have thought that his first pitch would go through the catcher to the backstop. That's what Tigers outfielder Rajai Davis predicted before it happened Tuesday night at Comerica Park. "A Robo-arm strike, that's what I'm predicting," Davis said. "He's got it in him, I think he's got the ability. I think he'll do it right. And I think he'll do it tonight because tonight's the night."On this point, it is very much worth noting that Robocop was on hand Tuesday night to throw out the ceremonial first pitch prior to that evening's Blue Jays-Tigers game. It’s part of “RoboCop Day” in honor of the DVD release of this year’s “RoboCop” remake. An announcement was to be made Tuesday about a RoboCop statue that’s expected to be installed in Detroit this year, but that event and a police meet-and-greet were cancelled. A movement for the statue started in 2011 after a social networking campaign.

Marlon Byrd Broke His Bat Swinging Without Touching The Ball

In a bizarre moment that has to be seen to be believed, Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Marlon Byrd had his bat break into two pieces on a pitch he swung at and missed completely. During Sunday afternoon's game against the New York Mets, Byrd took a typically healthy cut at a fastball from left-hander Jonathan Niese. However, before Byrd's bat could get to the baseball, it snapped at the handle and the barrel went flying toward the first base side of the pitcher's mound.Byrd was left looking confused yet amused, holding only the knob of the bat despite not even getting a piece of the ball on his swing. Byrd took a hearty cut at a Jonathan Niese fastball, and although he swung and he missed, his bat somehow ended up in two pieces. Byrd was left looking confused yet amused, holding only the knob of the bat despite not even getting a piece of the ball on his swing. Your browser does not support iframes. Byrd was able to redeem himself some later in the game since, for the third consecutive game, the Mets and Phillies went to extra innings. In the top of the 11th, the Mets took a 4-2 lead on a Lucas Duda home run. Byrd came back in the bottom half of the inning and swung hard again, but this time he actually made contact and hit a home run, cutting the lead to 4-3, before Ryan Howard grounded out feebly to end the game.
