Canadian women’s freestyle skier Yuki Tsubota was carted off the slopestyle course in Sochi early Tuesday.
The 20-year-old came up well short while attempting a high-risk jump to close out her routine.
Tsubota’s head hit the ground and she appeared initially to suffer a leg injury as she lay motionless on the ground not far from the finish line.Tsubota was attempting to land the third of three jumps at the end of the challenging and slushy course Tuesday when she crashed into the crest of the landing zone. The 20-year-old Tsubota slid down the hill while her skis scattered.Tsubota finished her first run of the ski slopestyle finals with a score of 71.60, good for fifth overall with three skiers to go.During her final run in the skiing slopestyle finals, Tsubota didn't get enough length on her last jump, and landed on the "knuckle" — the flat part of the hill right above the landing area.
She hit feet-first, one of her skis popped off, and it appeared that her knee hit her in the face, knocking off her goggles.
