Featured in the co-main event is the former UFC light heavyweight champion Rashad Evans against Antonio Rogerio Nogueira.The first fight of the UFC 156 fight card saw Francisco Rivera hand Edwin Figueroa his first ever stoppage defeat by way of a second-round technical knockout. The two bantamweights engaged in a high paced fight from the outset, with Figueroa getting the better of the striking exchanges in the first round and even scoring a knockdown. When the second round began, Figueroa quickly lost steam while Rivera kept a pace "El Feroz" was unable to keep up with. Rivera eventually hurt Figueroa with a huge furry of punches that forced referee Kim Windslow to stop the fight at the 4:20 mark of the second round.
