A player's injury in a Ukrainian Premier League match today could have ended in a much worse way if his opponent didn't act as quickly as he did.During today's match between Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk and Dynamo Kiev, Oleh Husyev took at knee to the head by Dnipro keeper Denys Boyko, immediately knocking him to the pitch. According to a report on the Toronto Sun, Husyev was unconscious and swallowed his tongue. When Husyev hit the ground, a member of the opposing team sensed trouble before running over and reaching into the 30-year-old’s mouth to clear his airway.
When panic set in, members from both teams, along with the stadium’s medical staff, began working to stabilize Husyev, who eventually rose to his feet and was carted off the pitch.Medical attention was still obviously required, as a dazed and clearly foggy Gusev was lifted by staff and players onto the stretcher, and there is no word on his current condition as of now, although he was apparently seen standing on the sidelines after being brought off.
The heroic actions of Kankava, which appeared to be almost instinctual, very likely avoided what could have been a much worse situation had Gusev gone some time without being able to breathe.
The visiting Dnipro ended up winning 2-0 behind a pair of goals from Matheus bookending the halftime break. With the win, Dnipro is tied with Shakhtar Donetsk for the league’s lead, while Dynamo Kiev sits two points back in third.
