Yoenis Cespedes unleashed one of the best throws in the majors in 2014 on Tuesday night. In a 1-1 game in the eighth inning, Angels star Mike Trout doubled to left field, where the Athletics outfielder initially booted the ball. But he was able to recover and nail Howie Kendrick at home plate, on the fly.
With Howie Kendrick on first and one out in a 1-1 game in the bottom of the 8th inning, Mike Trout doubled to left field. Cespedes took his eyes off the ball as he went to glove it on a bounce, and the ball kicked away from him. That mistake was enough for the Angels third base coach to wave Kendrick home.
Cespedes first bobbled the ball, but the assist helped keep the game tied at one and the teams went into extra innings.
Angels manager Mike Scioscia challenged the play, but the review upheld the call, keeping the game tied at one.
