Aston Villa's Nathan Baker had to be carried off of the pitch during Monday night's match against Arsenal after Serge Gnabry's shot hit him square in the face. The 22-year-old copped the full force of Serge Gnabry's blast at goal while rushing out of defence in the 16th minute. He was assessed by medical staff on the field for seven minutes, during which time he lost consciousness.
Baker was eventually stretchered to the Villa Park dressing rooms while wearing an oxygen mask, and took no further part in the match. Leandro Bacuna replaced him on the pitch. The immediate worry is, of course, that Baker has suffered a concussion. But generally, a stretcher is not involved in that sort of an issue, so it's really hard to say what might have happened. We will, of course, have updates as the emerge.
