PHOENIX -- Los Angeles Lakers guard Nick Young was ejected in the first half of Wednesday night's game against the Phoenix Suns after officials deemed he threw a punch at Goran Dragic.
Young was retaliating to a hard foul from Suns rookie center Alex Len. After an officials review, Len was assessed a flagrant foul 2 and also was ejected.With the Lakers trailing 36-35 with 7:33 remaining in the second quarter, Young received an outlet pass on the right wing and tried to dunk over Len. Len made contact with Young's face with his right hand as he fouled Young to prevent the basket, sending the Lakers' leading scorer this season to the floor.As Nick Young was on his way to the basket and going in for a layup, Len committed a hard foul that floored the Lakers guard.The referees assessed a flagrant foul 2 to Len for his original foul. The flagrant foul 2 designation applies to contact that is deemed “unnecessary and excessive” and requires an automatic ejection. The referees ruled that Young was guilty of a punching foul, which also requires an automatic ejection.
Len departed with two points (on 1-for-3 shooting) and three rebounds in four minutes.Young departed with nine points (on 4-for-8 shooting) and three rebounds in 11 minutes.
